Mission Statement

Inspectional Services is responsible for the review, inspection and permitting for new construction and/or alterations to any structures within the Town. Also, we have the authority to issue fines on persons or properties violating Merrimac’s General Bylaws, Zoning Bylaws and Building Code Regulations.

Online Permitting

The Town of Merrimac has adopted online permitting for the submittal of applications for residential and commercial building permits, electrical permits, plumbing and gas permits, mechanical permits, and trench permits.

Paper permit applications will no longer be accepted as of November 29, 2016. If you do not own a computer or if you need assistance, it can be obtained in the office or by contacting the Building Inspectors office during normal business hours.

Applicants will receive an e-mail once a permit is reviewed and payment is due. Once permit is released for payment applicant may pay online or with a check. Any payments sent in without a copy of the necessary documents will not be accepted.

Before applying for a permit, you should review the Building Department web page to see what documentation is required. Please scan and attach supporting documentation with your completed application. If you do not have the ability to scan and upload please send by mail or in person with a copy of your application. Provide as much information as you can on the form as incomplete applications may be rejected. If you have any questions prior to submitting a permit please reach out to the office for clarification.

Inspection Hours

To schedule an inspection e-mail asexton@townofmerrimac.com with your name, best phone number to reach you, type of inspection and permit address. The inspector will call you directly to schedule requested inspection.

  • Building: Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday 7a.m.-12p.m.
  • Electrical: Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday 10:30/11a.m.
  • Plumbing & Gas: Monday, Wednesday & Thursday 11a.m-12p.m.
  • Mechanical: Upon request.
